Iberê Camargo was a painter and printmaker who exhibited in Brazil from the 1940s. His 1973 aquatint and etching Figura IV typifies the more abstract and experimental tendencies explored by many Brazilian metal printers from the 1950s onwards. He was taught metal printing by Austrian Hans Steiner, before himself teaching that discipline at the Instituto Municipal de Belas-Artes do Rio de Janeiro from 1953, where his pupils included Anna Letycia and Rossini Perez. In 1960 Camargo taught in Montevideo, Uruguay, where his 1955 treaty on printing: A Gravura, was published in Spanish, prior to its later publication in Portuguese in 1975.
